From time immemorial to today, the story of Forest Lawn.

A timeline

  1. 10,000 BC – 1875 AD

    Pre-Contact to Treaty 7

    Blackfoot territory since time immemorial, home also to the Tsuut'ina Nation, the Iyarhe Nakoda Nations, and the Métis.

  2. 1910 – 1934

    Settlers and incorporations

    Settlers arrived around 1910; incorporated as Forest Lawn on July 4, 1934; amalgamated with Albert Park in 1935.

  3. December 1961

    Annexed by the City of Calgary

    A growing population and industry led to Forest Lawn becoming part of the City of Calgary.

  4. 1961

    The FLCA is established

    The Forest Lawn Community Association was founded to support residents and community members.

Land acknowledgement

Forest Lawn is located on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta, which includes the Blackfoot Confederacy (comprising the Siksika, Piikani and Kainai First Nations), the Tsuut'ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda (including the Chiniki, Bearspaw and Wesley First Nations). The City of Calgary is also home to the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region III.
